Day of the Dead Display

Dia de los Muertos
Mr. Alvarez's Display

The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is a Spanish celebration of life itself, while also honoring those who have deceased. This celebration starts on October 28th and ends on November 2nd. Those who celebrate will build an altar, or ofrenda, to honor their relatives or friends that have passed. The ofrenda usually has things that either were related to the person, or things that they liked, such as food that they enjoyed. It is thought that the relative who has an ofrenda built for them may visit their living relatives in some spiritual way. The other ways that this event is celebrated involve parades where people wear colorful clothing and have face paint making them resemble skeletons. The latter is to show that death is something natural, and that the people accept it as a normal thing, despite how tragic it may be.
